Our team starts with ... you!
Haere Mai, Welcome from the Minister
Hi there,Â
Warm welcome. My name is Ryan Feng. I am husband to Tara and father to two young boys Lucas and Nathaniel, and the pastor at St Margs.
My wife and I are originally from a big country in East Asia. I came to faith from a total atheist background in university in my home country by the sheer, irresistible grace of God, and since then God has been leading me and my family on quite an unexpected adventure. We have been living in NZ for about 10 years now, with various stints in Auckland, Queenstown, Cromwell and now Christchurch.
When I'm not engaging in ministry or reading, I'm usually playing tennis, biking, hiking or just meandering through the myriad of trails in Christchurch, and day dreaming about becoming a great fisherman and cook!
St Margs started as a church plant in 1960s by a nearby Presbyterian church when Bishopdale was being developed. This twofold DNA of being missional and community-oriented has never left us. We still see ourselves very much committed to the welfare of our surrounding communities, yet not losing sight of the missional imperative of the Gospel to make disciples of all nations, unto the ends of the earth (although in NZ we begin from the ends of the earth!)
Over the years, the church has gone through a lot of challenges, not least the fire that destroyed our old sanctuary in 2016. But God has been our helper and sustainer and the church has persevered through the 7-year long rebuild. Our new sanctuary was finally opened in March 2023 and is now a buzzing place with many community and church activities, as well as hosting our corporate worship.
We would love to see you visit, on Sunday or during the week. If you're searching for a spiritual family to grow in your faith, to have like-minded Christians to live the 'Life with God' together, and to find belonging and gospel friendship, I think you will find that here.
Manaaki te Atua (God bless)
